Cultivating Cherokee Trail of Tears beans – Workshop
Wednesday, June 5 at 6:00 pm
Monterey Public Library, 625 Pacific Street
Monterey, California

Learn from Master Gardener Carole King about planting, growing, and harvesting the Cherokee Trail of Tears bean — good as both a snap and a dry bean. The beans, donated by the Seed Savers Exchange, were acquired from the late Dr. John Wyche of Hugo, Oklahoma, whose Cherokee ancestors carried them over the Trail of Tears, the infamous winter death march from the Smoky Mountains to Oklahoma (1838-39) that left a trail of 4,000 graves.
