Join Sustainable Seaside, the City of Seaside, and a host of community partners in celebrating Seaside’s 12th Annual Earth Day event!

It’s happening on Sunday, April 23, from 1 pm to 4 pm, on the Seaside City Hall grounds.  The afternoon will feature an Electric Vehicle Test Drive/Ride/Display Fair, music by Palenke Arts youth ensembles, a Trashion Fashion Show, Children’s fun arts and crafts, over 25 information booths, demos, and a free raffle for eco-friendly prizes.

Test drive, or ride in, an electric vehicle, talk to EV owners about the benefits of driving an electric vehicle and learn about purchase incentives.  Have your EV Passport stamped at the various information booths and become eligible to win an e-bicycle!

Enter the drawing for a chance to win a Verve+ 2 Lowstep e-bike at the “Drive Electric” Earth Day Celebration. Test-drive one or more of the latest EV makes and models – for free.

Test rides on the Verve+ 2 Lowstep e-bike will be provided by Epicenter Cycling staff, so stop by their booth and take a spin!

The winner of the e-bike giveaway will collect their prize — a Trek Verve+ 2 Lowstep and a free bike helmet and lock — at Epicenter Cycling’s Monterey store.

Tomato starts - varieties2

Take home some organically grown tomato starts.  Several varieties have been selected for hardiness in our Seaside / Central Coast growing zone.  Suggested (optional) $2 donation per plant.

The City of Seaside will be launching a Tree Giveaway Event – giving away one (1) tree and one (1) bag of fertilizer free of charge to all Seaside residents and businesses with suitable tree planting conditions.

Through this effort, the City plans to raise awareness about the benefits trees provide and the giveaway event aimed to increase local tree canopy on private properties.

Two tree planting demo/giveaways are planned.

  • Saturday, April 22, 11 am at Farallones Park in Seaside, located off Hilby Avenue between Flores Street and Harding Street.  The demo will take place during the Friends of Seaside Parks Saturday Clean Up event, 10 am to 12 noon.  All are welcome to stay and help tend the pollinator gardens.
  • Sunday, April 23, 3 pm at Seaside City Hall Lawn during Earth Day activities.

Bring your old, gently-used digital devices (laptops, tablets, cell phones, monitors, etc.) computer and cell phone e-waste to drop off at the Computer e-Waste Collection Station. The devices will be data-sanitized and refurbished by Loaves, Fishes, and Computers in Salinas, and made available for use by eligible individuals and non-profits in Monterey County.  Unusable e-waste will be taken to the Hazardous Waste Disposal facility at Monterey County’s ReGen Monterey (Monterey Regional Waste Management District).

In celebration of Seaside’s 2023 Earth Day on Sunday, April 23, 1 pm – 4 pm,  we invite you to create and model a wearable work of art in our 2nd Annual Trashion Fashion Show.

Your design must be made of at least 90% recycled or re-purposed materials. Get creative with throw-away items such as newspapers, chip bags, water bottles, old VHS tapes, and CDs, etc.  Thrift stores are great for finding cool clothing and accessories. Be as funky as you want to be!  Individuals and groups are encouraged to coordinate a skit to model their outfits.  Model your creation to your favorite music.  Provide us with the details and we’ll queue it up for your walk on stage.

Seaside Councilmember Dave Pacheco will emcee the event.  Find more details about Seaside’s Earth Day event at  tinyurl.com/Seaside-2023-Earth-Day.

Please email Susan Ragsdale-Cronin, Trashion Fashion Show coordinator with the intent to participate by April 10, 2023.  sragsdalecronin@comcast.net
