Join Sustainable Seaside, the City of Seaside, and a host of community partners in celebrating Seaside’s 13th Annual Earth Day event!  We’re celebrating Earth Day to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our planet and we hope to inspire action towards a greener, more sustainable future. 

It’s happening on Sunday, April 21, from 1 pm to 4 pm, on the Seaside City Hall grounds.  The afternoon will feature an Electric Vehicle Test Drive/Ride/Display Show, music by Palenke Arts youth ensembles, a Trashion Fashion Show, Children’s fun arts and crafts, over 30 information booths, a tree planting demonstration, and a free raffle for eco-friendly prizes.  

Community Gardening activity at BETA PARK

Special pre-Earth Day Celebration and Community Gardening activity at BETA PARK in Seaside. The park is located between Vallejo St. and Luzern St., bounded by Elm Avenue and St. Elmo Street.  MAP.  Enjoy refreshments, eco-friendly giveaways, and the native plants that are in full bloom.
Volunteers are invited to join Friends of Seaside Parks (FOSPA) with tending the pollinator gardens and picking up litter.  Help with weeding, mulching, watering, and planting.  Visit https://friendsofseasideparks.org for more details.  Please your own gloves and drinking water.  Tools will be provided.

Electric Vehicle Test Drive/Ride/Display Show

Test drive a fleet of electric vehicles at the Sustainable Seaside Earth Day Event. This is a one-stop shop to check out a variety of EVs, talk to our staff about purchasing an EV, and learn about charging. Local dealerships have generously added their EVs to our line up, including Tesla, Chevy, Volkswagen, and Nissan. You can also chat with EV owners at our booth to get their tips on everything from mileage to charging stations.

● Talk to Electric Vehicle owners.

Music and Dance Performance

Palenke Arts youth ensembles will perform from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm on the City Hall Lawn stage and will feature the Bilingual Youth Chorus, the Hip Hop Dance crew, Danza folklórica Mexicana, and the High School Latin Jazz Combo, under the direction of Paul Contos.  


Organically Grown Tomato Starts

Take home some tomato plants for your home garden.  Several varieties have been selected for hardiness in our Seaside / Central Coast growing zone.  Suggested (optional) $2 donation per plant.

Tree Planting Demo and Tree Giveaways

The City of Seaside has launched the second year of their Tree Giveaway program to raise awareness about the benefits trees provide and to increase the local tree canopy in Seaside.  A tree planting demonstration will be presented on the City Hall Lawn, presented by Beth Rocha, certified arborist.

Seaside residents and businesses that can provide suitable tree planting conditions are eligible to receive one (1) tree and one (1) bag of fertilizer, free of charge.

3rd Annual Trashion Fashion Show

In celebration of Seaside’s 2024 Earth Day on Sunday, April 21, 1 pm – 4 pm,  the public was invited to create and model a wearable work of art in our 3rd Annual Trashion Fashion Show. 

Designs must be made of at least 90% recycled or re-purposed materials. Creative resources include throw-away items such as newspapers, chip bags, water bottles, old VHS tapes, and CDs, etc.  Thrift stores provided a great opportunity to find cool clothing and accessories. Individuals and groups were encouraged to coordinate a skit to model their outfits to their favorite music 

Seaside Mayor Pro Tem Dave Pacheco will emcee.
