Program Overview Since its inception in November 2022, the Broom Bash initiative has successfully conducted 52 events, drawing volunteers from both Marina and surrounding communities. Key sources of support include CSUMB’s Service-Learning program, the Defense Language Institute, and the Presidio. Funding is generously provided by the Sierra Club and a local foundation.
April 2025 Highlights April was a landmark month, featuring four Broom Bashes, including three custom tailored events for specific organizations. Notably:
The York School Junior Class returned for an impactful invasive plant removal effort.
York School 45 participants 4/10/25
Marina Coast Water District (MCWD) employees participated for the first time, marking our largest event to date.
Marina Coast Water District 65 participants 4/18/25
Locke Paddon Park Broom Bash — held in conjunction with Marina’s Earth Day celebration, further strengthening our community presence.
Earth Day Locke Paddon Park, 11 participants 4-12-25
Community Partners To accommodate these large-scale efforts, we secured 11 large weed wrenches from the Bureau of Land Management. We look forward to continuing collaboration with York School, MCWD,and other dedicated partners in future events.
Scheduling & Attendance Trends Broom Bashes typically occur twice per month, once on a weekday and usually on the fourth Sunday. Weekday events tend to have lower attendance compared to weekends. Our next scheduled event is Sunday, May 25th.
